Oh yes I did!

I bought P90X last spring and without running down my laundry list of excuses, I haven't broken it out until now. I won't be posting any 'before' pictures (don't want to scare the children!).

The DVDs can be combined in a few different ways to accomplish the type of workout you want. I chose the 'P90X Lean' version, with an emphasis on cardio. This morning I did the core workout and it was nuts! I have plenty of exercise DVDs and these are truly worth their price. I've always thought I had a pretty strong core but holy moly....I got schooled. I took Mike to work and lifted at gym there as well. Figured I'd keep to my 3 days a weight training as well. As long as I'm feeling capable, it can't hurt.

Last week was good. Weight training Mon-Wed-Fri and 45-60 minutes spinning Tues-Thurs. Diet's fine but have to say for the most part, that's not a real challenge for me. I exercise like a crazy woman, train more than most gals I know, but this weight that's crept up on me is stubborn and just seems to stick around. I'm looking forward to seeing how the muscle confusion workouts do for me. Healthy, happy, grateful and calm. Everything else is icing.

How was your week? All good on your end? I hope this year you'll realize your goals, stay healthy and remember to be grateful for it all!

I'm not worthy!!

Hello everyone! I've been away over a year now and would love to re-connect. What a year it's been!! Got married last Feb., my older son moved out on his own to San Francisco, I sold my house last Aug., my younger son stayed in So Ca to go to school, Sept. I quit my job after 17 years (no transfer opportunities available) & I moved to Portland Oregon to join Mike. Whew!!!!!!!!

I've been taking advantage of some time off. Working out at the Nike gym everyday has been great. I've gotten to know the streets of Portland pretty well and explored it's unique neighborhoods. I like it but I have to say, it's not as easy as I thought it would be. It's been tough to get 'connected', especially without working. I submitted apps to volunteer at 2 local hospitals (no response?!?) and finally heard back from the local library yesterday.

Portland is a great food & fitness minded city. The amount of cyclist (and bike commuters) is awesome...rain or shine. It's the most bike friendly city in the nation...pretty cool. The weather can be a little depressing. I was spoiled in So Ca. and never bothered with a coat. "The times...they are a changing". Biggest storm in 30 years welcomed me to Portland over Christmas. Got down to So Ca for a few days which was nice but I could do without all the running around.

This year I have big goals for myself. More specific goals so I'm excited and ready to make them happen. I mixing P90X into the week, full body weight training Tuesday & Friday (I think 3 days is to much for my frame) and spinning Mon, Wed & Thurs. Weight has been a little bit of an issue for me (those crazy ten lbs) but I'm chocking that up to age and hormones (sorry if tmi!) at this point. I'm healthy and capable, there is the true blessing.

I hope you are all well, your holidays were wonderful and you're enjoying (and respecting) your health. All my best in the New Year! It's good to be back.

I'm so glad we had this time together...

It's been tough for me to stay focused on anything lately, even this blog. I started a food blog which I really love but again...little time equals little posting, so I decided it's time to let go. The coming year will be busier than ever. I'll be getting married, seeing my older son off to Argentina and beyond (he's sowing his oats), getting Chuck settled into an apartment and college, looking for a new position (in or outside) of Toyota and moving to Portland to start a new chapter of my life. It's exciting but even typing it makes me a little weary.

It's been exciting to read your journey's as you set, train and reach your goals. I feel privileged that you let me in! I'll be in the gym every morning thinking of all the great things that lie before you, wishing you all my best in health, family and faith. Now get going....aren't you supposed to be training or something?!?!

Ooooeeee...I'm tired

Back from Hawaii and it's all caught up with me...I'm beat.
The business meeting was fun, Toyota really goes all out. The first night we were shown some of the new cars coming out, then treated to a private concert with Stevie Nicks opening for Aerosmith. The next day was another business meeting/new car show. Toyota hires an M.C. that fills in between our executives. This year it was Jay Leno and he was hilarious! After that meeting we head to the Waikiki Convention Center for sushi as far as the eye can see, with lamb chops, prime rib and open bars. The Doobie Brothers played in a room there, but it's just not the same without Michael McDonald. This year we had quite a bit of free time so I headed to the Rainbow Drive-in ( a local joint) for a plate lunch and just cruised around the city. My hotel room had a view of the beach right across the street. Waikiki is not my favorite place in the islands, but at the end of the day...it ain't a bad place for a business meeting either. The statue in the picture is Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, the grand daddy of surfing.

Clothes un-packed. Back to work and shrugging off this time change. Worked out twice while I was there but nothing since I got back on Monday night. Need a few days to catch up with myself. Hope all is well with everyone in the blog world! Enjoy the rest of your week.

Hit the ground..

Liz Wright...one of my new favorites. Makes me want to sink into a chair, watch a sunset, pour a glass of wine and light up a ...(just kidding on the last one!) ;)

Spent the weekend in Palm Springs with the girls. Nice and relaxing. Back home by early afternoon and got to the chores. I really feel ramped for the new week. I took a few days off last week, and I feel ready to go. Ran 4 miles on Sat. morning. The desert is beautiful in the morning. Crystal clear, 70 and peaceful.

Friday I fly to Hi for a weekend work conference. A quick turn around trip and come home Monday. I feel for the folks coming from the east coast. They have a killer flight..over 10 hours. OUCH! Hopefully most of them extended the trip and took some vacation time.

Not much to say...catching up on blogs and getting ready for the week. Happy, healthy and nothing but smiles. Have a great week!!

Counting Sheep

O.K.....It's 2:30AM and I'm blogging. To bed @ 10 thinking I'd be waking up at 5 for the gym. Two o'clock rolls around and I'm awake for good. ARGGGGGG!!! The last year this has happened more than once and I'm not liking it. I have a new manager at work and although so far so good, I wake up thinking about everything I need to make happen. If I can't fall asleep after this, I'll cut my losses, stay up and go into the office extra early.

This week I've had good workouts. Ran with the Nike folks on Sunday. 4 miles, 8.75 pace. Monday was 40 minutes cardio and 40 minutes weights. Tuesday 45 minutes cardio. Took a break on Wednesday and I think I'll do the same today. I'm making the effort to scale it back a little. I'm feeling slightly stressed fitting everything I'd like into my days, and my life at this point is beautiful....healthy, nothing to prove and balance is key. I'm all about rockin the boat, but not with this.

And what the %#&@? My left knee has this weird twang kind of thing going when I bend down. Not every time, but once in a while it catches and feels like an internal rubber band is stretching across my knee cap. Hmmmmmm. I made an appointment with the Orthopedic guy next week hoping it's nothing.

Well, some of you may be getting up by now, and I'll desperately try to get back to sleep for a few hours. I can always try watching O.J. coverage on CNN. If that doesn't do it I'm not sure what will. ;)

A whole lot of nothing......

As far as training....this is what's been happening. I thought I'd get a chance to work out in San Francisco but no go. Training class all day, everyone wants to have dinner at night so I politely go. I have a couple of drinks, stay out past my bedtime then to tired to get up for my usual morning workout. I made a promise to myself...When I travel, working out in the morning comes first.

I was able to go to a couple of new restaurants in San Francisco. I love that city! I stayed at the Harbor Court, around the corner from the Ferry Building. A great little boutique hotel...very small with a cool vibe. San Francisco is a great walking city to. If it's too far to walk, the BART will get you where you want to go. No chance of that in So Cal.

I'm a Monday kind of girl. Monday is a new week...a fresh start. That's when I like to get back into the groove of things. I'll spend the weekend catching up then hit it on Monday. Have a great weekend, train safely and make it fun!
